3 Easy Activities for Your Little Valentine

This is a tiny article! While most of our themes take place over several weeks, I decided to devote only a few days to Valentine’s Day. I’m just too excited about what we’re doing for President’s Day next week! That being said, I hate to pass up an excuse to play with the colors pink and red and throw around heart-shaped everything. Here’s what we did this week:

Valentine’s Day Sensory Bin

This was so much fun! I am a sucker for a black bean sensory bin base. Something about how the other colors just pop against a black background wins me over every time. So, I poured in our black bean base (kept in airtight container in between so as not to go bad) and then tossed in some felt balls I purchased off Etsy. Then I twisted some pipe cleaners into corkscrews. Afterwards, I tossed in some pink and red loose parts from Chickadees Wooden Toys. For good measure, I tossed in some Erzi play food that matched, from Danny and Luca.

What a color explosion! I handed over her sensory bin tools (another great Chickadees find) and set her to work. She spent several hours over the course of the week, mixing, stirring, and laughing all the while. Not only is that Valentine’s sensory bin pretty, it’s also entertaining!

Heart Letter Match

Buy stock in contact paper and painter’s tape. At least if you continue to follow along with our activities for awhile. I found a PDF of blank red hearts and cut them out. Using my best penmanship, I wrote the letters of the alphabet and then wrote another set on a piece of contact paper that I attached to the wall. I used painter’s tape to affix it. The painter’s tape ensures that overeager pullers won’t also take off your paint job. I gave her the letter hearts and told her to match them. She took to it so quickly! I was very impressed. Contact paper is also not as adhesive as you might imagine, so she was able to remove them several times and repeat the game.

Valentine’s Day Yoga

You know I wouldn’t leave you without a physical, gross motor activity. I was grasping at straws when I stumbled upon Kids Yoga Stories. The author, Giselle Shardlow, created a sequence of various yoga poses to do with your little one on Valentine’s Day. I highly recommend it. I wish I could post a picture of us doing it, but every time I grabbed the camera, Vicky would stop focusing on the movements we were doing. Que sera, sera!

So that’s it! Did you try any of these? Make sure to comment below!
