Let me start off by saying that AncestryDNA and my family tree back up my claims to be Irish. However, after a decade of me claiming every country in Europe but Spain (which ironically I can claim per AncestryDNA), my husband refuses to accept my heritage. Thus, I ensure that we celebrate St. Patrick’s day in full force! I’m talking matching outfits for me and the baby, a new green collar for the dog, and green beer for when he gets home.

Supplies Needed:

  • pipe cleaners
  • felt/foam four leaf clovers
  • magnets
  • Medium sized St. Patrick’s Day accessories – We used shiny coins, gold cups, and green necklaces, but this is really up to you
  • green scarf/ribbon
  • colander

Total Cost: $4.27 (assuming you have a colander at home)

  • Reading: Bright Baby: Colors
  • Nursery Rhyme: Itsy Bitsy Leprechaun
    • This is also a great book for little ones! But for our purposes, it serves as the nursery rhyme that I use to augment our lesson on colors.
  • Words: Green, Rainbow
  • Felt/Foam: Four Leaf Clovers
    • I found these adorable glitter four leaf clovers at my local dollar store. I affixed my trusty magnets with some super glue, and BOOM! An activity regarding the color green and counting, with glitter to boot!
Fun fact: After several rounds of the robot vacuum, we are still covered in glitter!
  • Sensory Bin: Green Rice/Gold Coins
    • I ended up reusing the green rice from our week with The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I found two St. Patrick necklaces, some gold coins and glittery four leaf clover. Later, I wandered down the party aisle and grabbed some gold paper cups. Voila! A veritable pot of gold. All these supplies were from my local dollar store, by the way.
The necklaces were worn all day.
  • Art: Coloring Pages
    • I know, I haven’t really varied up art these past few weeks. We’ve either been traveling or recovering from traveling and I find that prepping art projects take the longest. I promise there is more variety next week!
  • Gross Motor: Ribbon Run
    • I grabbed a St. Patrick Day themed scarf from The Dollar Store. What I thought was going to be her least favorite activity, turned into something of a goldmine (see what I did there?). Every day that week, she would go grab the scarf off of her bookshelf, and insist that I tie it around her tiny little baby waist.
    • The actual activity consisted of tying it around our wrists and running up and down the hallway to see who could make our ribbon fly best. She absolutely loved it. Mommy, however, needs to do more cardio.
She cheats a lot during hide and go seek.
  • Fine Motor: Pot of Gold activity
    • I was very excited for this activity. I took an old colander and some shiny pipe cleaners. Using her tiny little fingers, she was to thread the pipe cleaners into minuscule holes of the colander. Let me just say that this was the activity that Mommy enjoyed most. It was extremely satisfying to watch. I actually recorded a full minute of this activity and sent it to my in-laws.
This activity made me very hungry for pasta.
